Lens: Interviewers

Interviewers connect with individuals of diverse backgrounds and arrange interviews (online or offline) to document their journeys. Every six weeks, an interviewer is expected to produce an interview transcript or recording that spotlights the unique experiences of a marginalized individual.

Lens: Transcript Editors

Transcript editors work with interview transcripts to trim the conversation into a themed and cohesive narrative delivered in the first person’s point of view. Every two weeks, an editor is expected to produce an edited narrative that captures the interviewee’s story with a succinct and compelling structure.

Lens: Video Editor

Video editors work with interview recordings to remove unnecessary clips and produce a clean and compelling video narrative. Every two weeks, an editor is expected to produce a video that documents conversations revolving around one central theme, identity, or experience.

Lens: Translator

Translators work with edited narratives to deliver them in another language (English or Mandarin).  Every two weeks, a translator is expected to produce a line-by-line translation of the work in the other language that accurately reflects the story.

Inkbridges: Writers

Writers exchange letters with pen pals on a scheduled time frame. Through an informal style of communication, writers share their traditions, cultural experiences, and values with a pen pal from a different culture, fostering understanding and friendship.

Inkbridges: Program Directors

Program directors build and manage a pen paling program with a specific partner organization or institution. Directors are expected to maintain a line of communication with writers as well as the partner organization itself. Prior to the start of each pen paling program, directors are tasked to assemble a group of students, schedule the frequency of letter exchange, and communicate the expectations to writers.

Inkbridges: Outreach Managers

Outreach managers work to expand our network of letter exchange by reaching out to potential partner organizations, schools, and new program directors who hope to initiate a set of letter exchange. Managers are also tasked to recruit writers by sending emails, advertisements, and interest forms to various media outlets.

At The Discourse, we strive to bridge the divide between identities by sharing the personal stories of culturally marginalized individuals.

Our mission is to empower often-overlooked voices by fostering meaningful relationships and to spark critical conversations about the institutional prejudices perpetuating division.

We are committed to building a more compassionate and inclusive world where open dialogue transcends conflicts between nations and interests.
