Dear K***,
Hi, my name is Emma. I am 15 years old and am in my first year of high school. I have two dogs who are rescues from Aruba who are called Luce, which means ‘light’ in Italian, and Antea, which is the name of one of my favorite stars. I also love to write, play water polo, and bake. What are your favorite hobbies? I remember my first year of middle school (Grade 6), and it was a little frightening for me since I was starting out at a completely new school. I moved here from Italy, where the rest of my family still is, with just my dad, mom, and younger sister when I was five years old for my parents’ jobs. Since then, I never stayed at the same school for more than one or two years until Grade 6, so I quickly adapted to change. What I learned from that experience is that change is all about perspective; it does not have to be bad unless you make it so, and if you see it as an opportunity and take it as such to step out of your comfort zone, you’ll have a lot of fun. That was what I did once more when I reached my new school in Grade 6, and I made so many new friends that I am still thankful to have today. Anyways, I want to get to know a little bit about you! First off, what’s your favorite food? I’m Italian so I love my grandma’s cooking more than anything, especially her savory ham and parmesan baked crepes which are called ‘crespelle al forno’, but I also have a soft spot for Chinese soup dumplings and brown sugar milk tea…Also, what’s your favorite movie or cartoons? Growing up, I loved anything on Disney Channel, in fact I believed in magic so much that for one of my birthdays I even wished for a book which would transport me to one of my favorite character’s worlds so I could live their story with them and then come back home to my family! Imagine my parents’ reactions when that was my only wish for my sixth birthday, haha they were definitely speechless! At school, my favorite subjects are English, Science, Latin, and Chinese—what are your favorite subjects? At home, I always speak Italian rather than English so I don’t forget my origin language and lose my Italian accent as I always speak English everywhere else. Here’s some last questions I’d like to ask to get to know you better, what’s your favorite color, game, and animal? In addition, if you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? Lastly, what are the five words you would use to describe yourself? That’s it on my part for this first letter, but I can’t wait to hear back from you (hopefully you like the Star Wars surprise that’s in my letter;).
Sincerely, Emma
